Anthemius, 467-472. Solidus (Gold, 22 mm, 4.46 g, 12 h), Mediolanum, 471-472. D N ANTHEM-IVS P F AVG Helmeted, pearl-diademed and cuirassed bust of Anthemius facing, holding spear over his shoulder in his right hand and with a shield, decorated with a horseman spearing fallen enemy, on his left shoulder. Rev. SALVS REI PV-BLICAE / M - D / COMOB Anthemius and Leo I standing facing, clasping hands, supporting between them a banner inscribed PAS surmounted by a cross; the emperor on the right holds Victory on globe in his left hand. Depeyrot 31/2. Lacam 79. RIC 2885 (this coin, illustrated on pl. 65). Very rare. Good very fine.

From a collection formed in the Rhineland, acquired from Münzhandlung Ritter in February 1995 (with original dealer's ticket).
